Faces has always been a pretty cool and versatile label, releasing quality stuff by Motor City Drum Ensemble, Rednose Distrikt, Inkswel and Grooveman Spot over the last twelve years, but with their two latest releases they seem to have really come into their own. ‘Bringing It All Back’ and its follow-up ‘Escape to the Vibe’ are two marvelously deep slices of pure pleasure.
The ‘Bringing It All Back EP’ by Mexican up and coming producer Fabricio Gerardo Tepetitlan (aka 4004) is a throwback to the heyday of the advanced Jersey sound of the early to mid nineties with plenty of bumpin’ basslines, infectious pianos, warm pads and tough vocal samples. Lovely, timeless work.
Japanese deep house maestro Kez YM (real name Kazuki Yamaguchi) obviously draws his inspiration from the same place, but makes it sound slightly more contemporary. The hypnotic opener ‘Black Box Jam’ with its infectious shuffle beat is our favorite here, but every track’s a winner on this great EP.
