Tel Aviv and Jerusalem are definitely not the most common city’s which come to mind when you’re thinking about classical genres such as Chicago and Detroit house. Despite this prejudice about Israel and the musical heritage which originates from this country, Israel certainly delivers high quality input to the previously mentioned genres.
Deep’a & Biri, born and raised in Tel Aviv (Deep’a) and Jerusalem ( Biri ) released an impressive record last week on the Black Crow Records Imprint. The collaboration between these Israeli artists results in a mature, authentic and most of all distinct sound.
‘Redshift’ is a raw masterpiece which consists of old school drums and percussion accompanied by rough, continuously changing and evolving chords. The second track ‘Blueshift’ has a mysterious kind of sound. The track is building slowly and has a challenging, long break which flows into a subdued piece. The Argy remix is energetic and has a groovy ‘four to the floor pattern’ which makes the track a definite banger suited for dance floors.
Deep’a & Biri are among the most promising talents emerging from the electronic scene of Tel Aviv. Lately, they have been releasing tracks on top labels such as; Trapez Ltd and Upon You. Most of the tracks are getting played all over by some of the top artist in the techno and house scene.
Deep’a (29) is a key figure in Tel Aviv’s night life both as a DJ and as an A&R for Tel Aviv’s Cutting Edge Club Barzilay. In the past few years, he played alongside dj’s like: Derrick May, Dj Hell, Jeff Mills and Juan Atkins to name a few.
Itai Biri is a young (21) producer from the city of Jerusalem. Itai started his journey into electronic music at the early age of 14, and after a few years the kid already got some impressive producing and DJ skills with a wide range between loopy techno till Chicago and Detroit classic deep house.
