Crate Diggers; Djebali
In our new series ‘Crate Diggers’, artists who are known for their ability to amaze a crowd with striking and extraordinary records, share their latest treasures. In the second edition, we asked Djebali, to share his musical gems with us.
Djebali is a fast rising star originating from the flourishing Parisian club scene. Inspired by artists such as Dan Ghenacia, Ivan Smagghe and Ricardo Villalobos, Djebali started spinning records in 2001. Since then he has evolved into an accomplished house producer, launching his self-titled imprint in 2011 and making his Circoloco debut on the Terrace at DC10 Ibiza.
On the production front, Djebali caught the attention of none other than Jay Haze. Totally charmed by Djebali’s warm and fluid style, his first EP ‘Fanfare’ was released on Jay’s label Tuning Spork in 2008. Releases on Freak n’Chic followed, the inaugural label of quality Parisian house talent, delivering his 4 track ‘LAX EP’ to wide critical acclaim. With ‘Sorry, I Missed The Sky’, Djebali further cemented his signature smooth, organic house sound.
2011 saw the launch of ( djebali ), a limited vinyl series of only his music, produced, arranged and mixed exclusively on analogue gear. Currently on release 07, the independent creative outlet can boast this is house music as fresh as it comes, hot from the studio straight onto ( djebali ) wax.
Besides the ( djebali ) imprint he also started ( djebali ) presents; a platform to release other deep house talent and ( djebali ) reworks; off-shoot of ( djebali ) where other artists remix Djebali’s back catalogue. The debut EP from Mr KS on ( djebali ) presents is currently top listed in all leading charts and Christian Burkhardt and Hreno & The Mole delivered the first release on ( djebali ) reworks.
