Schmutz – Peelers EP (Dirt Crew)

After releasing the strong ‘Slaned’ EP on Gerd’s 4 Lux Recordings and contributing a track to Dirt Crew’s mini compilation ‘Deep Love 10’ last year Schmutz now delivers its first full EP for the Berlin imprint.

On ‘Peelers’ Belfast DJ and production duo Schmutz (real names Conor MacParland and Kristian Woods) further reveal what they’re all about; a dark, dense and dirty sound that’s part banging house and part bass-heavy techno. The sort of stuff that’s clearly made for peaktime use with no holding back.

A growling bassline set against a moody backdrop dominates the title track before bouncing balls and industrial sounds take over proceedings. ‘The Charge’ is built around frantic strings that fade in and out and on ‘Gold Bars’ Detroity synth pads and a cut up vocal sample fight for attention. ‘DDLF’ rounds of this versatile yet coherent EP with rolling basslines, hypnotic stabs and old school vocal snippets. Lovely work by this up and coming duo from Ireland.

‘Peelers’ is out now on Dirt Crew.
