The TR-808 finally gets the documentary it deserves. The legendary drum machine, that was introduced by the Roland company in 1980 and changed the course of electronic music as we know it will feature in a full length movie that will be released in early 2015.

The 808 was released in 1980 and first used by Japanese electronic pioneers Yellow Magic Orchestra on their track ‘1000 Knives’. It was Afrika Bambaataa who brought the drum machine to the clubs with his Kraftwerk-inspired electro anthem ‘Planet Rock’. The Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer (TR standing for ‘Transistor Rhythm’) played a crucial role in the development of hiphop, early house and techno and its echoes can still be heard in virtually all forms of modern electronic music. ‘808: The Movie’ features interviews with Afrika Bambaataa. Diplo, Goldie, 808 State, Richie Hawtin, Todd Terry, Pretty Tony and Francois K.
